The fifth of Debussy’s Preludes pour piano, Book 2 (1913), Bruyeres, suggested itself to me as another possibility for Flute Choir. The name means ’heathlands’, though the piece also refers to the north eastern French communes of the same name. The best preparation for playing the piece is to listen to a good piano performance - Walter Gieseking’s can’t, I think, be bettered (on YouTube). Each flute part has something interesting to do and contribute, though the main difficulties lie with flute 1. There are one or two unessential small divisi.
