The German composer Josef Kuffner, best known now by guitarists, was in fact a prolific composer of delightfully tuneful symphonies and chamber works for various combinations of instruments. The present arrangement comprises the last two movements of his Serenade, Op. 4, for flute, violin and guitar (an ever-popular ensemble in the early nineteenth century). Both movements are beautifully rhythmic, and the Rondo contains some wonderful gypsy moments within its Hungarian and Russian themes. Flute 1 is as in the original; flute 2 mostly follows the violin part. I hope this arrangement enables another little-known masterpiece to be introduced to a wider audience.
