No sooner has Lucy been persuaded to try to help MacHeath to escape from Newgate, by his promises of fidelity to her, than Polly arrives and flings herself on him, calling him her husband. MacHeath is at a loss to know how to act - Lucy, understandably, is furious!

This song appears in the original script in Act I, and my of course be returned there; however, it was first arranged for a version with a slightly rearranged script, which is why I have placed it at this point. The song is originally French, entitled "Le Printemps rappelle aux armes".
