This is one of the best-known tunes appearing in The Beggar's Opera, having come down to us both as a nursery rhyme and as a fife-and-drum marching tune, "Over the hills and far away": it is as a nod to this second style that I added the sopranino and snare drum in the second verse.

As in all the other songs, one or both bassons may be replaced by a cello.
