You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices.I was recently asked to arrange Gregorio Allegri's famous Miserere for string quartet. The original SSATB chorus with SATB soloists has been pared down to a four parts (with some double stopping to cover some needed fifth pitches). Page turns for the violins and cello happen at rests. The solo chant portions have been assigned to the viola, who, having no rests of which to speak, needs to have the three pages laid out in front of him/her all at once in order to avoid page turns. The unmetered chant has been changed accentually to put the stressed syllables of the original text (absent here) ON the beat, following an approximation of the rhythmic patterns of spoken speach. I will update this information later giving specific measures where this occurs for those who wish to change back to unmetered pulses.
