He is best known now for his two lovely oboe concertos, in C and E flat. (Mozart’s K. 179 is a set of piano variations on the Rondo theme of the former.) His flute duets, which I have posted separately, are characteristically melodious and slightly quirky. Here, the top two parts remain almost untouched, and I have added to them a simpler alto part. The result is a ’new’ set of trios that is at once more companionable for flute players, and less testing to listen to (!) than the originals. All in all, absolutely worth playing, at home or in concert.
