The multi-talented Prince Albert wrote a considerable amount of music, mainly song and choral, during his short life. Most of his work was published as The Collected Compositions of HRH Prince Albert, ed. W.G.Cusins (London, n.d. [1882]). Cusins, Master of the Queen’s Musick and Queen Victoria’s private organist, had known the Prince well, so the edition carries considerable authority. The present edition uses Cusins as copy-text, modernising the original’s alto and tenor clefs and adding tempo markings. The piece should be accompanied by an organ, but I have left the original part (clearly for piano) as printed. N.B. All editorial additions are marked by round or, occasionally, square, brackets. The autograph MS is in the Herzogliche Schlossbibliotek, Coburg.
