You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. This "Battle Canzona" for three brass quintets consists of a number of short sections in different meters, each intended to convey part of the story of a Renaissance-era battle. The three quintets are to be spacially arranged - quintet 1 on the left, quintet 2 in the centre and quintet 3 on the right. The timpani, which plays only in the battle sections, is placed in the centre.
I evoke the music of the Gabrieli family and also other composers who wrote "battle" music - Biber and Scheidt. This canzona is perhaps most closely related to the "Aria Della Battaglia" by Giovanni Gabrieli's uncle, Andrea Gabrieli.
