"The Sarum Right (more properly called Sarum Use) is the name applied to the particular rendering of divine worship in the English Church that was established by Saint Osmund, Bishop of Salisbury in the 11th Century and was originally the local form used in the Cathedral and developed at Salisbury, in the Diocese of Wiltshire. Although the Sarum Use was initially retained when the Church of England separated fro the Roman Catholic Church in the 1530s, Protestant pressure for public worship in English under Edward VI resulted in its replacement by successive versions of the Book of Common Prayer in 1549 and 1552. Queen Mary restored the Sarum Use in 1553 and promulgated it throughout England, but it was finally abolished by Elizabeth I in 1559.
