SEVERAC, Joseph Marie Deodat de (b. St. Felix de Caraman, July 20, 1873 d. Ceret, March 24, 1921), French composer; pupil of Toulouse Conservatory and of Magnard and dIndy at Schola Cantorum, Paris, from 1896 to 1907. He was greatly gifted, and his piano music is especially notable for its sensitive and highly personal evocations of the atmosphere of his native Languedoc. His songs are also very expressive and original.
