You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. The text used for the central feast in the Christian liturgical year is by one of the premier craftsmen of Modern English verse in its infancy, and one of the greatest poets in the English language. Born in London in about 1552 Edmund Spenser is best known for The Faerie Queene, an epic poem and fantastical allegory celebrating the Tudor dynasty and Elizabeth I. Both Edmund Spenser and William Shakespeare used folklore concerning the Fairy Queen to create characters and poetry. The anthem takes the form of a chorale cantata in which Spensers verses are divided into sections by short organ postludes which then introduce new material: it closes with a restatement of the main melodic idea and a short organ postlude.
