CAROLS FOR AUDIENCE AND ORCHESTRA Many orchestras, both amateur and professional, have Christmas Concerts that they encourage the audience to ’sing-along’ carols. Here is a moderately easy arrangement for full orchestra giving the orchestra something better to play than just a straight forward hymn book version. It requires little rehearsal time. The conductor, or MC, should tell the audience that there is a change of key for the last verse to look out for and to watch the conductor to bring them in. For this arrangement there is a soloist (can be either male or female) but they are not imperative; the audience could be divided (balcony versus the stalls?) or in anyway the ’question & answer’ verses are used. All these ’Carols for Audience’ have been played by the Kent Concert Orchestra at their annual Christmas Concerts in the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury and now by various orchestras all over the world due to the wonder of Sibelius.

Scoring:2(2nd Picc.);2;2;2; 4;2;3;1; Timps; Glock; Harp is Optional & Strings.

(The MP3. is a recording made in Peterborough Cathedral (choir and orchestra of 200) on Dec. 17th, 2011, conducted by Will Prideaux.)
