'Sun God Ra!', is a collection of songs that follow the mythical journey of Ra as he makes his daily pilgrimage across the sky, watching over his loyal Egyptian subjects. This journey is undertaken in a boat crewed by several of His relatives. When night falls he enters the underworld where he does battle with the fierce snake-like creature Apep. If he defeats the creature Ra is reborn and the following day will be bright and sunny, and everyone will be optimistic about its prospects. If Ra loses the battle then storm clouds will blight the day and the omens are dire.

'The Sun Setting Down In The West', is a reprise of the second song in the cycle, but the lyrics and ending have been changed to relate to the end of the day rather than the dawn. It is the twelfth song in the cycle and represents the end of the daylight hours and the transition into night, and the perils that lie ahead for Ra and his crew.
