Simon Balicourt appears to be unknown except for the ’Second Suite of Solos for a German flute and a bass’, published by ’John Johnson, opp. Bow Church, Cheapside’ some time in the mid 18th century. He is probably the ’Simon Balicourt, Widower of Saint Andrew Undercroft, City of London’, dated 26 June 1758. Johnson began publishing in London in 1740. Balicourt’s second sonata, in D, is published and performed; the others remain unpublished and unedited. Hence this first modern edition of the charming Sonata no 1 in B minor.
