Eleven European Christmas carols arranged for 2 flutes, oboe (or flute 3) and keyboard (guitar chording provided): God rest ye merry; Patapan; Noel nouvelet; From out of the wood did a cuckoo fly; Past 3 o’clock; Still, still, still; Oh, what Babe lies crying; Baby Jesus is crying; No soft cradle; Rocking; As the lovely Maiden. All except the last are avilable as separate arrangements, some with saxophone, although the arrangements in the medley are slightly different. The medley aims at a liturgical pattern: Welcome, with lots of noise and excitement (1 and 2); further excitement, tempered by recognition that no 3 is also an Easter tune; movement of news of the imminent birth from country to town (4 and 5); deepening, expectant, silence (6); the Baby is born, wailing in a sinful world, cold and chill (7-9); He is comforted by His mother (10, 11).
