Five carols(four from Poland, and one elbowed in from Bohemia/Moravia/Czechoslovakia) are here presented in a wind quintet arrangement for concert or worship use. They are: 1: Shepherds came to Bethlehem; 2) Into midnight’s calm silence; 3) Infant holy; 4) Cuckoo and dove carol (’Out of a forest a cuckoo did fly’); 5) Sleep, little Jesus. Any of them could well be played separately, depending on the occasion. Although they bear a family resemblance to my other Polish carol arrangements, these versions have been rethought with the particular voice of each instrument in mind. As a former clarinettist and oboist, I have had the greatest joy playing in wind quintets: I hope some of that joy comes across here.
