This tune is dedicated to the Reverend Dr Allan Jenkins.
Like its sister composition, this hymn-tune was inspired by fine twentieth-century words that are saddled with an old and, in my opinion, not especially appropriate tune in the New English Hymnal. I hope that musicians will find that my tune suits the words well, capturing their mood and ’flavour’.
Although the music was composed to be sung to the hymn ’Lord of beauty, thine the splendour’ by C. A. Allington, musicians are welcome to sing it to other texts in the metre 87 87 87.
If you sing it in your church, please be so kind as to let me know by email.
