Niels Wilhelm Gade (1817 – 1890) was one of the leading Danish musicians of his day. His compositional output included a number of symphonies, a violin concerto, a range of organ and piano pieces, plus various ‘concertpieces’ for different instrumental and/or vocal combinations. His Brudevalsen (Bridal Waltz) has become a staple of Danish weddings, even though Gade himself was not particularly pleased with the work. In addition to composing, Gade was also a successful violinist, organist, conductor and teacher.
The Christmas Tree: Entrance March is taken from part of the third movement of a piano work entitled The Children’s Christmas Eve (or sometimes justThe Children’s Christmas), written in 1859.
