You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices.Although John Gay's Beggar's Opera was based on popular tunes of the day, he employed a German musician, John Christopher Pepusch, to make arrangements and to supply an overture. Pepusch's original overture had a slow introduction in the manner of the day, bit I chose to start from the fast section. This arrangement was used for a performance of The Beggar's Opera in 1981, and the orchestration reflects the orchestra which we used at the time - hence the two bassoons (one of these can easily be substituted by a cello) and the guitar and percussion.
