"The Heavens Are Telling" is the mightiest of choruses from the Oratorio "The Creation" and is a popular favourite. At the time, when Franz Joseph Haydn lived, following on the discoveries of Sir Isaac Newton, but preceeding those of Charles Darwin, was the heyday of the view of an orderly universe. Also, he was a very devout man and the text he used in "The Creation" is taken from Genisis, the Book of Psalms and John Milton's 'Paradise Lost'; and, from a poem by Johann Peter Solomon entitled "The Creation of the World".
