The second movement of 'Three Faces of the Moon' depicts the romantic associations with the moon with the title 'Artemis the Virgin Huntress.' The '3rd' interval motif (see notes for Mv1.) is even more apparent in the harmony of this movement. The main theme from this movement also appears in the 3rd and hidden in the 1st emphasising the theme of love beating all, as in the play 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' on which the work is based. The sonata was later orchestrated for 2 flutes and orchestra. This version was performed in Egham 2000 by L. Taylor, R. Hobkins, G.B.
