original one step higher. These are six of the Eight Russian Folk Songs arranged by Lyadov in 1906. I’ve left out the Legend of the Birds, which didn’t seem idiomatic for brass, and the Dancing Chorus, which is longer than the others and disrupts the balance of the work. What remains here are six vignettes covering a wide range of character. My thanks to John Shaw, Director of the Penn View Brass Band, who suggested this as a good work to transcribe for brass.
