original one step higher. Berlioz wrote this for the final scene of a production of Hamlet which never actually happened. It calls for a full Berlioz orchestra, including four bassoons, both trumpets and valved cornets, six field drums and a wordless chorus. The march was never performed during the composer’s lifetime, and now survives as the best-known part of his Tristia.
