As Christians we can easily get caught in a rut and fail to live the lives God has planned for us. This song challenges us to consider if we’re making a lasting difference here on earth and whether our focus is on eternal treasures. Do we long for the lives of others to be changed and transformed into living stones?
With the Holy Spirit living in us, God wants to see us grow and to thrive. Jesus states in John 15:5 “I am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me and I in them, will bear much fruit; for you can do nothing without me.”
We need to be people who have a deep understanding of Jesus’ death and rising again. Powered by the Holy Spirit, this knowledge becomes a living reality and changes the way we feel towards God and to those around us. How do we see this change?
1. We should have a sense of gratefulness which fuels us to love him more and want his Kingdom to reign now on earth
2. We should have a genuine longing for God day after day. This requires having a radical obedience to God and “walking the talk”.
3. We need to do what Jesus commanded in Mark 8:34 and “deny ourselves and life’s distractions and give ourselves fully to him”. That means laying down all those “crowns” or “idols” of gold that we seek in greater importance to those of God – the self desires that distract us or prevent us from fully grasping or fulfilling the passion for God and his work.
When we’re living God’s way, we’re prepared to take greater risks for him and like Peter, be prepared to step out of the boat to walk on water.
