He was at the Conservatory of Antwerp (Belgium) and a sensitive nature. He died unexpected when I was composing a violinconcerto that was commissioned by 'The Symphony Orchestra of Flanders'. I changed my originally plans and decided to write this second mouvement like an epitaph for him. The theme in the beginning of the violinsolo, is the main subject for the whole work. I've used very prominent the range of the tritonus, a characteristic element of my teacher's music. In the last part, after a long and powerful crescendo with tremoli, the strings are playing rising scale's that are the symbol for the hope, while the windensemble plays a sort of a choral. The violin give's independent of these two groups his own commentary. It's scored for oboe, bassoon and horn in pairs and a string orchestra without percussion. You have in the audio MP3 file the opportunity to listen to a live recording performed by 'The Symphony Orchestra of Flanders' with the Belgian violinist Filip SUYS and the English conductor David ANGUS.This piece obtained the Arrangement Prize on the International Contest Song Expo 2001.
