Ross Cohen
United Kingdom
I Studied at the Royal College of Music, London (1973-76), where I Won the Cobbett and Hurlstone Prize for chamber music composition. I also held two resident string quartet positions, being also a founder member of the Menuhin Foundation of Bermuda. I Joined the Halle Orchestra in 1979, defected to the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in 1983, left the BBC in 2007. I am now principal viola of the Welsh Sinfonia, and have more time to devote to chamber music, composing and arranging. In 1995, while at the BBC, I formed a viola quartet called 'ABSOLUTE ZERO' (yes, honestly!) We're still going strong and have a world-wide following. As well as recitals, the quartet has hosted a number of massed viola workshops - amazing fun!
