I studied Piano and Organ, Royal Irish Academy in Dublin and have an abiding interest in choirs, choral singing and choral composition.
My choral experience goes back to the late 1960s, and apart from being a chorister, I was a choirmaster in Ireland over many years.
Formative influences were undoubtedly Kodaly and Stanford, although my experience of the choral repertoire over the years has grown to be fairly extensive.
The composition of a capella choral pieces is something I really enjoy. I want other to share that joy, so my compositions are free to download. All I ask is to be notified with performance information (viz choir, location, when a piece is to be performed - purely for portfolio reasons. Obviously feedback, including choir and audience reaction, would be welcome too.
As a chorister in Ireland I sang mainly in large Choral Societies. My repertoire includes many 'bigger' works, including Mahler Symphonies 2 & 8, Elgar's Dream of Gerontius, Verdi and Brahms Requiems, Handel's Messiah and Haydn's Creation, Mendelsohn's Elijah, as well as other 'smaller' works - lots of Masses from Kodaly, Poulenc back to Palestrina and Victoria, and including Gounod, Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn etc. on the way.
Over the years I also sang in smaller choirs/ensembles with a focus on partsongs, Masses etc. and with an emphasis on 20th century composers.
