Although the piece is a memorial to my late parents, I trust it is not gloomy or sombre, although it is hymnlike and solemn. Rather, I hope it looks beyond death to a possible future, not in a particularly religious sense. Even so, it is capable of a religious interpretation, if that suits the performance situation. The listener, singer, choirmaster should feel free to opt for whatever interpretation seems appropriate.
