The poet, Yeats, presumably was a cat lover, as is the composer. Here he draws a picture of the cat that seems to suggest its kin to deity and mystery, just like the Moon - a nice conceit. Nor should we forget Yeat's links to the Golden Dawn and the occult movement of the late 19th and early 20th century.
