One of the most common, if not too common carols sung on doorsteps throughout the world, We wish you a merry Christmas is of traditional English origins. It was originally a carol sung by waits, a municipal chorus of singers who entertained visiting dignitaries, spiced up weddings, and made festive holidays such as Christmas even merrier. For their efforts, waits were often paid in coins and appropriately, that part of the traditional English Christmas feast known as figgy pudding. The modern version consists of four verses with the well-known refrain.

This arrangement comes with a supplemental third violin part, and an optional bass part for use with string orchestra.
