The Military Industrial Complex features a large percussion section with orchestra. On Jan. 17, 1961, President Dwight Eisenhower gave a speech warning about what he described as a threat to democratic government. He called it the military-industrial complex, a union of defense contractors and the military. It strives and profits from the misery of others. In this piece, I’ve tried to express the might and power of this conglomeration, as well as, the suffering it has brought to the innocent people around the world caught up in the insanity. This is evident in the opening and at letters E and K. You can also hear the ringing of the cash register at letter L. Some of the melodies purposely have a Middle Eastern quality. Please listen to the mp3 to experience the true sound and impact of the percussion instruments. Comments are welcome.
