"Strangea Hydrangea" is the third solo classical guitar piece in the "Hydra" series, NOT to be confused with any of my other sinister series, that pay tribute to Fiends (not friends) and other horrible beasts of the night and to the marvelous influences, much to many's dismay and chagrin, they have had on my person and my composing. The Hydra is an expert dart player and brick-layer so they say.

The excerpt is bars 1-5 of the piece. They are exceptionally long bars in 9/4. It first employs the G, Ab, A, D# germ from the first three Hydra pieces in a Lydian form (Ab-Bb-B-E), then enharmonically (G-Ab-Abb-Eb), and finally harmonized in 4ths at the climax of the piece. It might be characterized as "Bumble-Creepy".

The melody against the accompaniment creates a 3:4 polyrhythm which, if executed neatly with metric precision, is not difficult to bring forth.

The music creates a similar sinister and haunting aura as in all the other series, however. I sincerely hope that you enjoy this piece as well as the other "Hydras" pieces. But one must never rush a Hydra…. Please go to my Score Exchange catalog to purchase my scores for very, nearly FREE, reasonable prices. scoreexchange.com/profiles/cjrenzi
