Springtime Blues is a bluesy take on a theme from the ‘Spring’ concerto of Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons (a work popular with telephone switchboard ‘on hold’ systems!) At the time of writing the original compositions, Vivaldi was interested in exploring the balance between musical innovation and conventional harmony, so hopefully he would not have minded that extracts from his most popular works have been appropriated and redeveloped by various writers over the years.

This piece was created for woodwind trio of flute, clarinet and bassoon - however, a bass clarinet alternative to the bassoon part is also included, for added flexibility.
