About "Sonate n°1" :
This triptych was written in autumn-winter 2020, during a residency at the Abbaye de la Prée, in a rural area from center of France. This specific period was marked by the covid-19 pandemic, the global insecurity feeling and multiple questionning towards our past, present and future. A lockdown was going on at that time.
"De l'aube à la brune" evocates the passing of a day, from to the first to the last rays of sun. It is also evocating the relation between light and shadow (depicted from the begining with a game of responses between two voices), at the same time opposite, complementary and finaly necessary for their mutual existence. They are progressively melting to become a constant musical flow. This simple observation is extendable to an infinite number of contexts : one can see different separate entities but in the end, anything is always connected to another, interacting and uniting with the ensemble.
