You are purchasing high quality sheet music PDF files suitable for printing or viewing on digital devices. This piece was written for the University of Hawaii Spring 2006 Young Composers' Symposium. It was the first piece I wrote specifically for my music studies at UH.
The idea was a simple melancholy tune set to a repeating i-bVII-VI chord progression. It came to me one day while I was practicing piano, but soon kept coming back to haunt me. I decided to write this piece based on that material and some "new" ideas my teacher encouraged me to use. I'm proud of the result, only wishing that I had more time to extend the piece.
The entire idea for the program notes was pretty melodramatic (especially looking back at it now): It dealt with the issue of always living in a fantasy world where things are perfect, only for reality to creep in and shatter those ideals. Sadly there was nothing discussed about appreciating what we have instead of looking at what isn't.
