Both this and the separate, mixed-voice setting come from the larger work "Sacrifices" (available on this website). This setting won the first prize in the Cornwall International Male Voice Chorus Festival composition competition, September 2012. Alwyn Humphreys, the adjudicator, wrote the following about this song: -
"……a setting of the famous John McCrae poem, IN FLANDERS FIELDS. This is atmospheric music which conveys very beautifully and sensitively the scene of the rows and rows of soldiers’ graves, the crosses and the poppies, and the larks singing above. The words are lovingly set and there is a sincerity about this music that elevates it to the realms of art. There’s no need to say more. It’s a lovely piece of music and it is the very worthy winner of the competition."
