The final movement of ’Gold, Silver & Bronze’, composed for the Lambeth Wind Orchestra for the Cool Fusion project, as part of the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad, begins with the bitter disappointment and self-questioning of those athletes who fail to win a medal. It then moves to a vigorous re-statement of the opening from Lehar’s ’Gold & Silver Waltz’, first heard in 1902, ending with the theme played by the full orchestra with a second fragment from Lehar’s waltz rising above it. PLEASE LISTEN TO THE MP3 FILE, PRODUCED USING GARRITAN SOUND SAMPLES, RATHER THAN SCORCH.
