This hymn tune appeared in the Grenoble Antiphoner of 1753. It was used in the English Hymnal (1906) to set the words "O love, how deep, how broad, how high". Since then it has been used for many different texts. The present words were translated by Richard Mant (1776-1848) from a Latin original from about the 10th century - "Exultet orbis gaudiis".
