The original 7 (dating from the 8th century) derive their texts from Isaiah and Micah; their number was increased according to local preference during the Middle Ages. I have set the original seven, together with an eighth, as simple, short anthems to be used at any time during Advent, either during the service or as introits, accompanied or unaccompanied.
