Bach derived great inspiration from the music of Antonio Vivaldi, and from 1713-1714 Bach transcribed at least nine concertos of Vivaldi’s concertos, three for solo organ and six for solo harpsichord. Bach’s concerto in A minor for organ is an arrangement of Vivaldi’s concerto op.3 no. 6 for 2 violins and basso continuo, RV522. Simon Peberdy’s piano duet is an arrangement of Bach’s arrangement of Vivaldi’s concerto. The concerto consists of 3 movements, and all are great fun to play! This was the first movement that I arranged, primarily because the organ I was playing wasn’t up to it (in the pedal department), and as I liked the concerto so much, I figured I could at least enjoy a full version as a piano duet. It turned out to be such fun that I decided to arrange the whole concerto.
