This is not an easy piece and the voice leading is tricky. Although the arrangement is set for five voices (Baritone) there is still, necessarily, a lot of division of lines. It is the nature of the piece that the Basses have a particularly monotonous if insistent line to sing. Go to it, Basses! The relatively limited range of SATB voices has meant some juggling with some of the orchestral lines, but this was unavoidable. And clearly the orchestral colours can never be captured by voices alone. I feel, however, that the arrangement could be a satisfying and even enjoyable challenge to an established and experienced choir - preferably a large one.
