This composition can be performed by a variety of instrumental combinations. Though originally written for piano (Greg Pagel), vibes (Matt Moran), drums (Bob Moses) and myself on bass, it has often been performed in a trio format with guitar covering the melody and chords.
The somewhat unusual tensions in the chord progression are intentional and study will reveal interesteing voice-leading opportunities within them. The bridge features polychords [these oblique lines should be horizontal, but I could not get Sibelius to notate them!] with a Eb pedal in the bass.
The energy of the form follows a basic arch shape, peaking in the early Bridge and then dispelling towards the end.
