Programme Notes: An arrangement by Martin Watson for recorder trio of a Volta dance from around 1550 which was originally included in Praetorius’ collection of 16th Century European dances. During the course of the dance, the male dancers took the female dancers around the waist and threw them upwards, hence the name.
