This is a setting from a group of ironic poems by Thomas Hardy which he called Satires Of Circumstance. This tells the story of a young woman who standing at her Aunt's grave tells her boyfriend how her Aunt used to give her sixpence a week to save up to buy a headstone for the grave and that she must soon get round to setting it up. The woman says that she received it for eighty weeks and the boy-friend asks where the money is now. She replies that it is safe in her purse. He says "Let's spend it", as the Aunt will never know. He suggests that they go to a dance that evening, to which the girl agrees, so off they go.
