Thrice Round the Circle is set for female voices in three parts, concertante oboe and harp, metallic percussion (including celesta) and strings. Naturally polyphonic in nature, as befitting the words, most contrapuntal devices are deliberately mis-used. Key letter names are picked out by tubular bells with upper strings making use of harmonic whip-like passages to reinforce the effect, and the harmony undergoes a significant shift at the beginning of the coda.
There are four, musically related, companion pieces, including Dance, Lady, Dance and the Song of Amergin, featuring solo tenor, concertante horn and harp.
At the moment, performing material, including full score may be had directly from the composer. Please contact him directly.
