The cost gives licence to make as many copies as needed! The Second Service Magnificat has an intriguing rhythm in the accompaniment, almost a Samba-feel, while the soloist sings the opening of the Magnificat - a young Mary, perhaps. The harmony is infused with warm, jazzy 7th chords, and often slips around the cycle of 5ths. The Nunc Dimittis opens with a tenor solo, perhaps with Simeon in mind, and builds up over a recurring bass/Ground Bass to a climax, as it returns to its home key of D minor, having passed through keys of the "Chromatic mediant". For the Gloria in the Nunc, we return to the Magnificat's themes, this time with both soloists singing together - the Tenor soloist's melody is the Magnificat theme inverted. The Parish Choir of Great Malvern Priory has really enjoyed getting to know these new Canticles - you'll hear this on the mp3, taken from a live service, and not perfect, yet!
