This anthem was commissioned by Mr S. Burke and Ms S. Moss for their wedding in October 2009. The words are by the great-grandfather of the bride. They have traditionally been sung to the Londonderry Air (’Danny Boy’) and so I have used that famous melody as a cantus firmus in the tenor part. The sopranos also have some of the tune for a phrase from the end of bar 6, singing in canon with the tenors. The idea is that the cantus firmus should blend into the texture, rather than sticking out as ’the tune’.
