A while ago I read of the photograph "The Halabja Sisters" that brought the insidious March 16, 1988 Iraqi chemical attack on the Kurdish town of Halabja to the world's attention and condemnation. In the photo, two Kurdish sisters cling to each other in death. The composition has alternating moments of terror, sadness, and loving affection. It ends with just two instruments, piano and bass, to illustrate the girl's last moments on Earth together.
