I fell in love with this folk song many years ago when I learnt it off the great Planxty's first album in the 1970s, although I believe it was also collected by Vaughan Williams early last century from a singer in Gloucestershire. The tale has sinister overtones as the slighted woman virtually puts a curse on the blacksmith for loving and leaving her and the dance coda leaves to the imagination what form his punishment might take. Hell hath no fury etc etc ……
