For a commission from Croydon Council to write music for a joint concert between a local amateur orchestra and a group of Asian musicians (Geet Sangeet), I bit the bullet and composed this piece which combines the two very different styles in the form of an "ode to music". The real challenge was that the Geet Sangeet players do not read music, and the orchestral players do not improvise. My solution was to give Geet Sangeet a copy of this Sib file with added vocal line from which they are learning the piece, whilst the orchestra have conventionally notated parts. In performance, hopefully the words will be sung in more than one language. Fingers crossed that in the concert in April we all start and end at the same time!!!
